Iwent back to the Boulevard Race course yesterday with Mark, Voris and Rick. The idea was to pootle the first lap as a preview and then race the second and third. We’re just two weeks away from the actual race and we all wanted to leave everything on the road.
I got more than [...]

For the second year in a row, the Descenders won the Stagecoach Century Team Time Trial by setting a new course record of 4:59:30!
That’s Dave, Dave, Dave and Rick. There are 9 Dave’s on Team Descenders.
The Descenders are a San Diego cycling club that rides mostly in the Poway area. They’re famous not [...]

“You gotta be kidding me! That’s a dirt road.” I said, following Mark off the pavement, less than a half mile from the US-Mexico border.
We were supposed to be on our second lap of the Boulevard Race course. I had the hammer down, trying to see how fast I could go and was off [...]

After the thrashing my legs took on Saturday, I planned to do a sort of threshold workout on Monday by riding the Penasquitos Canyon MTB trail as fast as I could. Out and back, it’s a total of 30 miles with really only one significant grade.
The trail near I-15 is like flying down a [...]

I (stupidly) invited my friends on the Descenders to sign up with me for the Boulevard Road Race next month. Of course, the squad’s four fastest riders did just that. I was hoping they’d at least sign up for the Mens 45+ race (they’re all geezers), but no. We’re going to line [...]

Aden had his training wheels removed yesterday. He’s pretty stoked, as is Dad.

My Tour de France legs have left me. The legs that could climb the Galibier, Telegraph, Croix and Mollard the day after hammering up Alpe d’Huez are gone.
But that’s ok. This year I have different goals. I don’t want to ride mountains all day long; I want to win a bike race. [...]

A week ago I gave up drinking alcohol. I went an entire week without a beer after a ride or glass of wine for dinner. It was very strange at first. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with myself. So, I read more, wrote more, worked more and played the [...]

I bought a Garmin Edge 305 in May of 2008 and have been addicted ever since. It’s become an indispensible training tool – I use it on both my road and mountain bikes.
A couple of months ago it started shutting off in the middle of rides. That’s a problem – incomplete data sucks. It [...]
