I’m so stoked, I can hardly maintain. I just bought this mountain bike!
I used to mountain bike years ago, before I got into road cycling with such passion. In fact, the reason I quit mountain biking was that I wore out my bike, which I take as a good sign.
With my Tour de France adventure over, [...]

My heart-rate monitor read: 103% of max HR. Shouldn’t I be dead or something?
I was about a third of the way up Torrey Pines hill going very fast and feeling very good. Well, very good for being at 103% of my max HR. I’ve been training with a heart-rate monitor since April and usually when [...]

Thanks to my new phone, you can follow my adventures in France as they happen.
Much like I did during the Monster Climbs trip this year, I’ll be snapping photos along the way and using Flickr to post them to my blog. And if I have time at night, I’ll post more in-depth about the events [...]
As near as I can tell, I’ve got 2,576 miles on my front tire. I’ve kept much better records of my back tire cause it gets changed much more frequently (usually about every 800 miles). I can tell when my back tire is ready for a change when the bead gets rubbed flat. [...]

Standing in Black Mountain Cyclery today looking at cold-weather gear. It’s supposed to be in the 50’s tomorrow with a chance of rain for the 100+ mile Tour de Cure. Leg warmers, full-fingered gloves, full jackets, that head warmer thingy, shoe covers.
Outside it was 81F and perfectly sunny. I just couldn’t bring [...]

What’s better than climbing Highland Valley on a beautiful sunny afternoon and shaving 2:48 off your best time?
Screaming down Highland Valley at 43.5 mph on brand new Mavic Ksyriums.

I used to ride with a spoke wrench in my saddle bag. Not anymore.
I’ve had chronic problems with my rear wheel getting out of true. My local LBS has replaced the rim once saying it was bent, but the new rim quickly went haywire too. On yesterday’s ride, I had to true [...]

I’ve been thinking lately that my bike doesn’t fit as well as it could. In pictures of me racing last weekend, I don’t look very comfortable. My position on my bike has also started to feel really long, like I am reaching for something. My butt always hurts after a long ride [...]
