Julian Death March Preview (part 1)

by Arlyn on March 19, 2009

It felt like we were descending into the darkest depths of middle earth. I fully expected to pass sea-level at any moment. We started the morning in 34 degree sunshine, freezing but happy to be riding. Descending more than 2,000 feet, we passed through the cloud layer we once looked down on, into a gloomy [...]

Hold Your Horses!

by Arlyn on February 19, 2009

I was doing my weekly budget today and saw a check had cleared for $250. I didn’t remember the expense so I clicked to view an image of the cleared check…
…and fell COMPLETELY out of my chair. It was the check I wrote to the “Leadville Trail 100” for my entry in this year’s Leadville [...]

2009 Boulevard Road Race

by Arlyn on February 7, 2009

Just as I was starting to feel good it started snowing. Big, wet, sloppy snowflakes coming down hard. Ok, now I’ll start from the beginning…
It was freezing-ass cold in Live Oak Springs today for my first road race. I raced the Cat 5(a) along with several Descenders; Voris, Mike, Rick, Drew and Logan. The plan [...]

by Arlyn on February 6, 2009

Several people around the country are reporting having received their acceptance letters for the 2009 Leadville 100 MTB Race. I haven’t gotten my “Yippee!” card yet and am hoping it’s because I’m two days away in San Diego. Apparently the letters were postmarked yesterday.
Between the Boulevard race tomorrow and waiting to see if I got [...]

The Answer to a Question

by Arlyn on February 4, 2009

Ihave completed my training to race my first USCF road race. I’ve trained hard and consistently for the last 14 weeks and know that I’m stronger and faster on a bike than ever. The only thing left for me to do is some recovery, eat well and get plenty of rest.
The weather forecast is calling [...]

Woe is me, they all signed up

by Arlyn on January 13, 2009

I (stupidly) invited my friends on the Descenders to sign up with me for the Boulevard Road Race next month. Of course, the squad’s four fastest riders did just that. I was hoping they’d at least sign up for the Mens 45+ race (they’re all geezers), but no. We’re going to line [...]
